Events: Celebrate with us. Leif Erikson Day
This is a “save the date” announcement to say we will be celebrating Leif Erikson Day at the House of Denmark Cottage on Sunday, October 11. Our event will piggyback on the Nordic Heritage Celebration hosted by the House of Norway the afternoon of October 11. Children can come early (about 3 pm) to the Danish cottage to enjoy the crafts and try nonalcoholic mead with baked apple slices. For dinner, the cottage will provide Danish hotdogs with all the trimmings starting about 5 pm. We ask that members and visitors bring a salad or dessert to share. This is your chance to dress like a Viking. Costumes are optional, and weapons are not necessary.

Nov 21 – Juleklip / Christmas Crafts Hygge
We are kicking off the holiday season by offering some Danish aebleskiver along with an opportunity to make traditional paper hearts, origami stars, and other holiday decorations in time to display them in December. The Cottage will filled with “julehygge” and the colorful paper, star strips, and other supplies needed to create Danish Christmas ornaments.

November 21: Juleklip

December 4-5: December Nights 2026

We hope that you will be able to help us show San Diego what Danish julehygge is. Once again, we need many volunteers for December Nights to help bake and serve our much loved æbleskiver, hot apple cider and hot chocolate at the cottage. In the “spirit garden” we will sell gløg, snaps and eggnog. Over those two days, House of Denmark needs 13 to 15 on volunteers at any given time. Please don’t hold back.

Volunteers are needed for these times:

Friday, December 4, from 2 p.m. to 11p.m.
Saturday, December 5, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The toughest spots to fill are from 5 to 11 p.m.

Danish ‘Juletræsfest’ / Christmas Party and Church Service on December 19

Please join us for the annual Danish ‘juletræsfest’ Christmas Party and Church Service.

Feel free to attend both the service and the party or just one of them.

Danish/English Church Service:A traditional Danish church service held by Pastor Anne-Grethe Krogh Nielsen from the Danish Church in Yorba Linda. The service will be in Danish and English and we will sing Danish Christmas Hymns.

Traditional Danish Christmas Party : We will start off with a glass of Gløg and a craft activity for the kids. Then a traditional Danish Christmas dinner will be served. We will “dance” around the Christmas tree and Julemanden has promised to come by with a gift for the children (up to 12 years).

Menu:

Flæskesteg med sovs/ Pork roast with crisp pork rind and gravy

Laks / Salmon

Brunede og kogte kartofler / Candied and boiled potatoes

Rødkål / Red cabbage

Grøn Salat / Salad

Risalamande med kirsebærsovs / Traditional Rice dessert with cherry sauce

Hjemmebagte småkager/ Homebaked cookies

Fastelavn: A day of fun and food. kids get to break candy filled barrel. end of February(house member event.).

Lawn Program: Singing,Dancing,Story teller,Lego Group,Sons of Odin viking re-enactment group plus food and drink. (Way Cool!!!)

Det Store Påskebord / Easter Buffet: Excellant food, drink, activities and entertainment.(house member event.)
